  • why is there that feeling of calmness before a storm? Like an electricity in the air?

This doesn’t happen all the time, but it’s pretty eerie when it does. With and storm, warm moist air is pulled up through the middle of the storm to fuel cloud development and such. Some of this central updraft exits through the top of the clouds and falls back down to Earth. As it falls, it compresses, which warms the air and dries it out. These columns of warm dry air streaming back down cause the “calm before the storm” effect.

  • Have you seen NOAA’s revised 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season predictions?

They still claim that this season will be above average and claim that intensity will pick up over the next month.

The scientists at NOAA claim there will be

    • 13-19 named storms
    • 6-9 Hurricanes
    • 3-5 Major Storms (Category 3,4,5)

So far the Atlantic Hurricane Season has be pretty lackluster, but the season is far from over (it ends November 1st).
